Transplant Time!

Harrison here,
This past month of November has been a real roller coaster. I was treated with my third round of Chemotherapy at the beginning of November . I was in the hospital most November. It was tougher than the first two chemotherapies and keep me down with a lot of infections. I was released on Thanksgiving afternoon. It was great to go home and have a little turkey dinner with my family. The fallowing week I had a bone marrow biopsy and received the result back say my bone marrow was clean. Meaning NO LEUKEMIA! Remission! As soon as we found that out we celebrated at Texas Roadhouse and it was the same day as my older brother Makay's birthday. What a gift!

After that I also met with the Doctors and we decided that we need to move forward quickly with the Bone Marrow Transplant before the leukemia would grow back. The transplant Doctor wanted me to come in on my birthday but, we asked him if I could come in a day later which wasn't a problem. So on December 10th my family and me had a Christmas Party/Birthday Party. It was fun and good to be with them. Now I'm on my third day of Radiation and that is going alright. It gives me pretty bad stomach aches. I'm also waiting for day one of the transplant when I get my new bone marrow from my sister. Thanks Amanda!

I"ll be here at the University of Utah Hospital for a month or two. So if I don't see you all I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Thank you for all of your comments, support, and love. Sincerely,

Harrison

  1. Hi Harrison,
I'm glad to hear that you will be having the bone marrow transplant. It's not easy to go thru this stuff as you already know but in the long run its worth it. Keep a postive attitude and take it one day at a time. God bless you and your family, and I'm praying for you!!!

  3. Dude that rules you are in remission! Life will be back on track like you want it to be sooner than you know it. Way to fight though I must say. Its hard but always worth it in the end.
I have some good news in a way too. I just came back from Boston where we met some doctors who specialize in my rare cancer. They feel the scans I had dont prove to them that I am have regrowth. They think it is scar tissue from my last surgery. So they think I should just wait to see if anything grows. There is a chance I am also cancer free! I hope so!
Well once again way to fight man. You can brag to everyone now who hasnt fought cancer that you are a stronger person. HA
    Keep udating your blog.
    Sincerely,
    Nick Raitt

  5. Hey Harrison,
I'm sure right about now it's tough going but hang in there, better times are coming. No matter what happens, keep putting one foot in front of the other, stay positive! There are so many people who have beaten this doing exactly what you're doing right now! You and I are going to be part of plenty of bone marrow birthdays (you more than me cause I'm so much older! LOL!) because of all the amazing things doctors are able to do to get rid of our Leukemia. Remission is a great word, no? Congrats on that, stay strong.

  6. Dear Harrison Family,
I find it interesting that once a person becomes known to you - your heart stores that knowledge and the Holy Spirit can retrieve their memory. Such was the case on August 8th - 2008 when I was reading "Grace for the Moment Daily Bible" with devotional writings by Max Lucado. I share the following as it gave me hope. I quote Max Lucado:
    God Knows What's Best
The problem with this world is that it doesn't fit. Oh, it will do for now, but it isn't trailor-made. We were made to live with God, but on earth we live by faith. We were made to live forever, but on this earth we live but for a moment......
We must trust God. We must trust not only that he does what is best but that he knows what is ahead. Ponder the words of Isaiah 57:1-2: "Those who are right with God may die, but no one pays attention. Good people are taken away, but no one understands. Those who do right are being taken away from evil and are given peace. Those who live as God wants find rest in death." My, what a thought. God is taking them away from evil days ahead. Could death be God's grace? Could the funeral wreath be God's safety ring? As horrible as the grave may be, could it be God's protection from the future? Trust in God, Jesus urges, and trust in me.

"Put your trust in the Lord."
    Proverbs 22:19

I trust that God has Harrison in heaven and the Holy Spirit is strengthening all of those who mourn Harrison's passing.
    Godspeed.
